Towards Sustainable Growth: A Multi-Value-Aware Retrieval Framework for E-Commerce Search
arXiv:2605.17994v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: New item growth is critical for maintaining a healthy ecosystem in large-scale e-commerce platforms. However, existing systems tend to prioritize presenting users with already popular items, a phenomenon often referred to as the "Matthew effect". In the context of search retrieval, current cold-start models suffer from the misalignment between training objectives and online business metrics, and they lack effective mechanisms to measure an item's growth potential. In this paper, we propose a Multi-Value-Aware retrieval framework tailored for e-commerce search, designed to better align with the cascaded online values across different stages of the search system while balancing immediate conversion and long-term item growth. Our framework GrowthGR consists of two key components: an Item Long-term Transaction Value Prediction (ItemLTV) module and a Multi-Value-Aware Generative Retrieval (MultiGR) module. First, in the ItemLTV module, we employ counterfactual inference to quantify the long-term value increment attributable to a single user interaction. Second, in the MultiGR module, building upon a semantic-ID-based generative retrieval architecture, we leverage structured samples with the search cascade signals and adopt a Multi-Value-Aware Policy Optimization (MoPO) training paradigm to align with multi-stage online values, while explicitly balancing short-term transactional value and long-term growth potential estimated by ItemLTV. We successfully deployed GrowthGR on Taobao's production platform, achieving a substantial 5.3% lift in new item GMV while delivering a non-trivial 0.3% gain in overall search GMV. Extensive online analysis and A/B testing demonstrate its positive impact on the overall ecosystem value.
Learning to Reason without External Rewards
arXiv:2505.19590v5 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Training large language models (LLMs) for complex reasoning via Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards (RLVR) is effective but limited by reliance on costly, domain-specific supervision. We explore Reinforcement Learning from Internal Feedback (RLIF), a framework that enables LLMs to learn from intrinsic signals without external rewards or labeled data. We propose Intuitor, an RLIF method that uses a model's own confidence-termed self-certainty-as its sole reward signal. Intuitor replaces external rewards in Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) with self-certainty scores, enabling fully unsupervised learning. Experiments demonstrate that Intuitor matches GRPO's performance on mathematical benchmarks while achieving better generalization to out-of-domain tasks like code generation, without requiring gold solutions or test cases. Our findings show that intrinsic model signals can drive effective learning across domains, offering a scalable alternative to RLVR for autonomous AI systems where verifiable rewards are unavailable. Data Center Spatio-Temporal Load Flexibility in Security-Constrained Unit Commitment for Enhanced Grid Efficiency and Reliability
arXiv:2605.18517v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Data center electricity consumption reached 4.4% of U.S. total in 2023 and is projected to grow to 6.7--12% by 2028, imposing increasing stress on transmission networks while representing a largely untapped source of controllable demand-side flexibility. This paper proposes a modular security-constrained unit commitment (SCUC) framework that coordinates flexible data center workloads with system-level scheduling to reduce renewable curtailment, alleviate congestion, and lower operating costs. Three mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) models are formulated: the Data Center Spatial model (DC-S), enabling instantaneous workload redistribution across geographically distributed sites; the Data Center Temporal model (DC-T), permitting each site to shift its deferrable load across time while preserving the daily energy balance; and the Data Center Spatio-Temporal model (DC-ST), jointly activating both mechanisms and spanning the largest feasible operating region. Case studies on a modified IEEE 24-bus reliability test system show that DC-ST eliminates all base-case and post-contingency transmission violations at a flexibility ratio of 40%, and reduces renewable curtailment by up to 84.4% at 30% relative to the inflexible baseline. Sensitivity analysis further reveals that moderate flexibility levels of 20%--30% already capture most of the achievable benefits, supporting practical deployment with limited operational burden on data center operators.
Can These Views Be One Scene? Evaluating Multiview 3D Consistency when 3D Foundation Models Hallucinate
arXiv:2605.18754v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Multiview 3D evaluation assumes that the images being scored are observations of one static 3D scene. This assumption can fail in NVS and sparse-view reconstruction: inputs or generated outputs may contain artifacts, outlier frames, repeated views, or noise, yet still receive high 3D consistency scores. Existing reference-based metrics require ground truth, while ground-truth-free metrics such as MEt3R depend on learned reconstruction backbones whose failure modes are poorly characterized. We study this reliability problem by comparing neural reconstruction priors with classical geometric verification. We introduce \benchmark, a controlled robustness benchmark for multiview 3D consistency, and a parametric family that decomposes neural metrics into backbone, residual, and aggregation components. This family recovers MEt3R and yields variants up to $3\times$ more robust. Our analysis shows that VGGT, MASt3R, DUSt3R, and Fast3R can hallucinate dense geometry and cross-view support for unrelated scenes, repeated images, and random noise. We introduce COLMAP-based metrics that use matches, registration, dense support, and reconstruction failure as failure-aware consistency signals. On real NVS outputs and a structured human study, these metrics achieve up to $4\times$ higher correlation with human judgments than MEt3R.
A Systematic Analysis of Out-of-Distribution Detection Under Representation and Training Paradigm Shifts
arXiv:2511.11934v3 Announce Type: replace Abstract: We present a systematic benchmark of out-of-distribution (OOD) detection CSFs through a representation-centric lens. Our study spans CNN and ViT backbones, multiple training paradigms, four image-classification source datasets (CIFAR-10, CIFAR-100, SuperCIFAR-100, and TinyImageNet), and OOD datasets grouped into near, mid, and far regimes using CLIP-derived semantic distances. To compare CSFs across these settings, we employ a multiple-comparison-controlled rank pipeline that identifies top cliques of statistically indistinguishable winners under threshold-free ranking metrics (AURC and AUGRC). The main empirical finding is that the competitive detector family depends more on the learned representation than on score design alone. For both CNNs and ViTs, simple probabilistic scores dominate misclassification detection. On CNNs, margin-based scores are strongest in near-OOD regimes, while geometry-aware scores such as NNGuide, fDBD, and CTM become more competitive as shift severity increases. On fine-tuned ViTs, the top cliques are led mainly by reconstruction- and residual-based scores. To interpret these ranking shifts, we analyze the last-layer representation using Neural Collapse (NC) metrics. The resulting picture is consistent across architectures: prototype- and boundary-aware scores become stronger when the representation is more collapsed and better aligned with classifier weights, whereas weaker-collapse regimes favor gradient- and manifold-based scores. Building on these insights, we propose two contributions: a simple PCA-based projection-filtering procedure that improves detector performance, and an approach that uses NC measurements computed from a trained classifier to predict its competitive out-of-distribution detector shortlist, without requiring any additional OOD data.
Beyond Patches: Global-aware Autoregressive Model for Multimodal Few-Shot Font Generation
arXiv:2601.01593v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Manual font design is an intricate process that transforms a stylistic visual concept into a coherent glyph set. This challenge persists in automated Few-shot Font Generation (FFG), where models often struggle to preserve both the structural integrity and stylistic fidelity from limited references. While autoregressive (AR) models have demonstrated impressive generative capabilities, their application to FFG is constrained by conventional patch-level tokenization, which neglects global dependencies crucial for coherent font synthesis. Moreover, existing FFG methods remain within the image-to-image paradigm, relying solely on visual references and overlooking the role of language in conveying stylistic intent during font design. To address these limitations, we propose GAR-Font, a novel AR framework for multimodal few-shot font generation. GAR-Font introduces a global-aware tokenizer that effectively captures both local structures and global stylistic patterns, a multimodal style encoder offering flexible style control through a lightweight language-style adapter without requiring intensive multimodal pretraining, and a post-refinement pipeline that further enhances structural fidelity and style coherence. Extensive experiments show that GAR-Font outperforms existing FFG methods, excelling in maintaining global style faithfulness and achieving higher-quality results with textual stylistic guidance.
LSM-VEC: A Large-Scale Disk-Based System for Dynamic Vector Search
arXiv:2505.17152v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Vector search underpins modern AI applications by supporting approximate nearest neighbor (ANN) queries over high-dimensional embeddings in tasks like retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), recommendation systems, and multimodal search. Traditional ANN search indices (e.g., HNSW) are limited by memory constraints at large data scale. Disk-based indices such as DiskANN reduce memory overhead but rely on offline graph construction, resulting in costly and inefficient vector updates. The state-of-the-art clustering-based approach SPFresh offers better scalability but suffers from reduced recall due to coarse partitioning. Moreover, SPFresh employs in-place updates to maintain its index structure, limiting its efficiency in handling high-throughput insertions and deletions under dynamic workloads. This paper presents LSM-VEC, a disk-based dynamic vector index that integrates hierarchical graph indexing with LSM-tree storage. By distributing the proximity graph across multiple LSM-tree levels, LSM-VEC supports out-of-place vector updates. It enhances search efficiency via a sampling-based probabilistic search strategy with adaptive neighbor selection, and connectivity-aware graph reordering further reduces I/O without requiring global reconstruction. Experiments on billion-scale datasets demonstrate that LSM-VEC consistently outperforms existing disk-based ANN systems. It achieves higher recall, lower query and update latency, and reduces memory footprint by over 66.2%, making it well-suited for real-world large-scale vector search with dynamic updates.
Stable Routing for Mixture-of-Experts in Class-Incremental Learning
arXiv:2605.17571v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Class-incremental learning (CIL) requires models to learn new classes sequentially while preserving prior knowledge. Recently, approaches that combine pre-trained models with mixture-of-experts (MoE) have received increasing attention in CIL: they typically expand experts during learning and employ a router to assign weights across experts. However, existing MoE methods often overlook routing drift induced by expert expansion. Once new experts are introduced, the router may reassign samples from earlier classes to newly added experts, thereby perturbing previously established expert compositions and causing interference even when old experts remain frozen. We argue that expandable MoE in CIL requires two complementary properties: stable old-class routing for knowledge preservation and sufficient capacity utilization for new-class adaptation. To this end, we propose Stable Routing for MoE (StaR-MoE), a routing-level framework for expandable MoE in CIL. By incorporating sensitivity-aware routing alignment, StaR-MoE aligns current old-class routing behavior with historical routing distributions through sensitivity-guided constraints. Complementarily, StaR-MoE introduces asymmetric capacity regularization to encourage effective utilization of the expanded expert pool without compromising class-specific routing specialization. Extensive experiments across four standard CIL benchmarks demonstrate that StaR-MoE consistently improves both average and last accuracy over state-of-the-art methods, highlighting the importance of stable routing.
Synthesis and Verification of Transformer Programs (Technical Report)
arXiv:2602.16473v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: C-RASP is a simple programming language that was recently shown to capture concepts expressible by transformers. In this paper, we develop new algorithmic techniques for automatically verifying C-RASPs. To this end, we establish a connection to the verification of synchronous dataflow programs in Lustre, which enables us to exploit state-of-the-art model checkers utilizing highly optimized SMT-solvers. Our second contribution addresses learning a C-RASP program in the first place. To this end, we provide a new algorithm for learning a C-RASP from examples using local search. We demonstrate efficacy of our implementation for benchmarks of C-RASPs in the literature, in particular in connection to the following applications: (1) transformer program optimization, and (2) constrained learning of transformer programs (based on a partial specification).
BlendedNet++: A dataset and benchmark for field-resolved aerodynamics and inverse design of blended wing body aircraft
arXiv:2512.03280v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: The conceptual design of Blended Wing Body (BWB) aircraft is often constrained by the high computational cost of resolving complex aerodynamics over a high-dimensional design space. While deep learning offers a pathway to rapid aerodynamic prediction and inverse design, its adoption in aerospace engineering is limited by a lack of large-scale, field-resolved training data. This work addresses this gap by introducing BlendedNet++, a comprehensive aerodynamic dataset comprising 12,492 unique BWB geometries, each evaluated using steady Reynolds-Averaged Navier--Stokes (RANS) simulations to provide integrated forces and dense surface fields (Cp, Cf). Leveraging this data, we establish a robust framework for two critical engineering tasks: (1) real-time prediction of surface aerodynamic fields using geometric deep learning models, and (2) generative inverse design. We benchmark five surrogate architectures, identifying Transolver as the most accurate for field predictions. Furthermore, we demonstrate a generative inverse design pipeline using conditional diffusion models combined with gradient-based refinement. This hybrid approach is shown to generate multiple feasible designs that satisfy specific lift-to-drag targets with high accuracy (R^2 > 0.99), as confirmed by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation. These resources enable a shift from iterative analysis to direct generation in early-stage BWB design.
ClickSeg3D: Few-Click Interactive Segmentation via Semantic Embeddings
arXiv:2605.08925v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Interactive segmentation allows efficient label generation by leveraging user-provided clicks to progressively refine predictions, which is critical when fully supervised labels are costly or generalization to unseen classes is needed. Existing 3D interactive methods are limited: most operate sequentially, predicting only one object per iteration with binary masks, while several recent approaches depend on 2D foundation models and camera alignment to bridge the 2D-3D gap. To address these limitations, we propose a novel interactive segmentation framework that operates directly on sparse, randomly downsampled 3D points and processes multiple object clicks in a single forward pass. Our framework consists of a point Transformer-based encoder and a hierarchical mask decoder, which integrates multi-level crop-and-merge operations conditioned on learnable semantic embeddings. Unlike prior interactive approaches that require repeated model updates after each manually corrective click, our method jointly reasons over all click queries, modeling inter-instance relationships and refining both spatial masks and semantic predictions through spatial and semantic embeddings. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our model improves the mIoU metric by over 20 percent compared to strong baselines and achieves 8-10 percent gains under cross-dataset evaluation for a one-click per instance setting, often requiring only a single click per object. Our approach provides a generalizable and efficient solution for interactive 3D instance segmentation, particularly suitable for real-time applications such as robotic manipulation, navigation, and rapid 3D semantic annotation.
Fine-tuning vs. In-context Learning in Large Language Models: A Formal Language Learning Perspective
arXiv:2604.23267v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Large language models (LLMs) operate in two fundamental learning modes - fine-tuning (FT) and in-context learning (ICL) - raising key questions about which mode yields greater language proficiency and whether they differ in their inductive biases. Prior studies comparing FT and ICL have yielded mixed and inconclusive results due to inconsistent experimental setups. To enable a rigorous comparison, we propose a formal language learning task - offering precise language boundaries, controlled string sampling, and no data contamination - and introduce a discriminative test for language proficiency, where an LLM succeeds if it assigns higher generation probability to in-language strings than to out-of-language strings. Empirically, we find that: (a) FT has greater language proficiency than ICL on in-distribution generalization, but both perform equally well on out-of-distribution generalization. (b) Their inductive biases, measured by the correlation in string generation probabilities, are similar when both modes partially learn the language but diverge at higher proficiency levels. (c) Unlike FT, ICL performance differs substantially across models of varying sizes and families and is sensitive to the token vocabulary of the language. Thus, our work demonstrates the promise of formal languages as a controlled testbed for evaluating LLMs, behaviors that are difficult to isolate in natural language datasets. Confirming Wave Turbulence Predictions in Rotating Turbulence
arXiv:2510.25446v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Though highly impacting our lives, rotating turbulent flows are not well understood. These anisotropic three-dimensional disordered flows are governed by different nonlinear processes, each of which can be dominant in a different range of parameters. More than 20 years ago, Galtier used weak wave turbulence theory (WTT) to derive explicit predictions for the energy spectrum of rotating turbulence. The spectrum is an outcome of forward energy transfer by inertial waves, the linear modes of rotating fluid systems. This spectrum has not yet been observed in freely evolving flows. In this work, we show that the predicted WTT field does exist in steady rotating turbulence, alongside with the more energetic quasi two-dimensional turbulent field. By removing the 2D component from the steady state velocity field, we show that the remainder three-dimensional field consists of inertial waves and exactly obeys WTT predictions. Our analysis verifies the dependence of the energy spectrum on all four relevant parameters and provides limits, beyond which WTT predictions fail. These results provide a solid basis for new theoretical and experimental works focused on the coexistence of the quasi 2D field and the inertial waves field and on their interactions.
Balancing FP8 Computation Accuracy and Efficiency on Digital CIM via Shift-Aware On-the-fly Aligned-Mantissa Bitwidth Prediction
arXiv:2602.05743v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: FP8 low-precision formats have gained significant adoption in Transformer inference and training. However, existing digital compute-in-memory (DCIM) architectures face challenges in supporting variable FP8 aligned-mantissa bitwidths, as unified alignment strategies and fixed-precision multiply-accumulate (MAC) units struggle to handle input data with diverse distributions. This work presents a flexible FP8 DCIM accelerator with three innovations: (1) a dynamic shift-aware bitwidth prediction (DSBP) with on-the-fly input prediction that adaptively adjusts weight (2/4/6/8b) and input (2$\sim$12b) aligned-mantissa precision; (2) a FIFO-based input alignment unit (FIAU) replacing complex barrel shifters with pointer-based control; and (3) a precision-scalable INT MAC array achieving flexible weight precision with minimal overhead. Implemented in 28nm CMOS with a 64$\times$96 CIM array, the design achieves 20.4 TFLOPS/W for fixed E5M7, demonstrating 2.8$\times$ higher FP8 efficiency than previous work while supporting all FP8 formats. Results on Llama-7b show that the DSBP achieves higher efficiency than fixed bitwidth mode at the same accuracy level on both BoolQ and Winogrande datasets, with configurable parameters enabling flexible accuracy-efficiency trade-offs.
Explaining Object Detectors via Collective Contribution of Pixels

Object detectors identify and localize instances by assessing multiple visual features collectively. When generating explanations, overlooking these collective influences in detections may lead to missing compositional cues or capturing spurious correlations. However, existing methods typically focus solely on individual pixel contributions, neglecting the collective contribution of multiple pixels. To address this limitation, we propose a game-theoretic method based on Shapley values and interactions to explicitly capture both individual and collective pixel contributions. Our method provides explanations for both bounding box localization and class determination, highlighting regions crucial for detection. Where Does Warm-Up Come From? Adaptive Scheduling for Norm-Constrained Optimizers
arXiv:2602.05813v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: We study adaptive learning rate scheduling for norm-constrained optimizers (e.g., Muon and Lion). We introduce a generalized smoothness assumption under which local curvature decreases with the suboptimality gap and empirically verify that this behavior holds along optimization trajectories. Under this assumption, we establish convergence guarantees under an appropriate choice of learning rate, for which warm-up followed by decay arises naturally from the proof rather than being imposed heuristically. Building on this theory, we develop a practical learning rate scheduler that relies only on standard hyperparameters and adapts the warm-up duration automatically at the beginning of training. We evaluate this method on large language model pretraining with LLaMA architectures and show that our adaptive warm-up selection consistently outperforms or at least matches the best manually tuned warm-up schedules across all considered setups, without additional hyperparameter search. How Off-Policy Can GRPO Be? Mu-GRPO for Efficient LLM Reinforcement Learning
arXiv:2605.17570v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) has been a key driver of recent progress in reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards (RLVR) for large language models, but it is typically trained in a low-staleness, near-on-policy regime that incurs substantial system overhead. We ask a simple question: How off-policy can GRPO be? We show that GRPO-style algorithms can tolerate substantially larger rollout staleness than previously assumed, and propose Mu-GRPO, an RL training framework that organizes training into a small number (e.g., four) of large sequential generation-optimization stages. This design induces high rollout staleness while greatly reducing rollout-optimization switching overhead. To stabilize learning under stale data, Mu-GRPO combines relaxed clipping, which preserves useful stale-rollout gradients, with negative-advantage veto, which removes destabilizing post-trigger suffix updates in negative-advantage responses. Across five language models and multiple math reasoning benchmarks, Mu-GRPO matches or exceeds the performance of standard GRPO while achieving around 2x speedup in wall-clock training time, establishing a substantially improved performance-efficiency trade-off for LLM reinforcement learning.
Diamond Maps: Efficient Reward Alignment via Stochastic Flow Maps
arXiv:2602.05993v3 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Flow and diffusion models produce high-quality samples, but adapting them to user preferences or constraints post-training remains costly and brittle, a challenge commonly called reward alignment. We argue that efficient reward alignment should be a property of the generative model itself, not an afterthought, and redesign the model for adaptability. We propose "Diamond Maps", stochastic flow map models that enable efficient and accurate alignment to arbitrary rewards at inference time. Diamond Maps amortize many simulation steps into a single-step sampler, like flow maps, while preserving the stochasticity required for optimal reward alignment. This design makes search, Sequential Monte Carlo, and guidance scalable by enabling efficient and consistent estimation of the value function. Our experiments show that Diamond Maps can be learned efficiently via distillation from GLASS Flows, achieve stronger reward alignment performance, and scale better than existing methods. Our results point toward a practical route to generative models that can be rapidly adapted to arbitrary preferences and constraints at inference time.
Adaptive double-phase Rudin--Osher--Fatemi denoising model
arXiv:2510.04382v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Even though more than 30 years have passed since the seminal Rudin--Osher--Fatemi (ROF) paper on total variation (TV) denoising, it remains relevant, in particular in scientific applications such as astronomical imaging. However, it is known to suffer from artifacts such as the staircasing effect. Many variants of the model have been proposed with the aim of countering this. Recently, against the backdrop of immense research output on double-phase problems in the mathematical analysis community, a double-phase type integral functional, comprising of TV and a weighted term of quadratic growth, was suggested as a regularizer for image restoration. Here, we propose an adaptive variant of the ROF denoising model based on that regularizer. It is designed to reduce staircasing with respect to the classical ROF model, while preserving the edges of the image in a similar fashion. We implement the model and test its performance on synthetic and natural images over a range of noise levels. Compared to {established} models {with similar interpretability to ROF}, we observe an improved or similar performance in terms of similarity metrics SSIM, PSNR, {and LPIPS}, while the staircasing effect is visibly reduced.
A-ProS: Towards Reliable Autonomous Programming Through Multi-Model Feedback
arXiv:2605.18073v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Large Language Models (LLMs) demonstrate strong potential for automated code generation, yet their ability to iteratively refine solutions using execution feedback remains underexplored. Competitive programming offers an ideal testbed for this investigation, as it demands end-to-end algorithmic reasoning, precise implementation under strict computational constraints, and complete functional correctness with rigorous evaluation. In this paper, we present A-ProS, an autonomous AI agent that solves competitive programming problems through a hybrid multi-model feedback framework separating solution generation from specialized debugging. A-ProS combines ChatGPT-based generators (GPT-4 and GPT-5) with three debugging critics: Codestral-2508, Llama-3.3-70B, and DeepSeek-R1, under a 2 x 3 factorial design. We evaluate six workflows on 367 problems from ICPC World Finals (2011-2024) and Codeforces (rated 1200-1800). The results show that GPT-5 workflows improve from 39 initial accepted solutions to 85-90 after three refinement rounds, while GPT-4 improves from 15 to 31-38. A controlled ablation on 47 problems shows that stateful refinement outperforms stateless approaches by 8.5-10.6 percentage points and reduces repeated failures by up to 3.5x. Compared to baseline agent loops, A-ProS achieves over 2x greater gains, highlighting the importance of persistent context and multi-model feedback for reliable autonomous program synthesis.
A Conditional U-Net Pipeline with Pre- and Post-Processing for Aerial RGB-to-Thermal Image Translation

RGB-to-thermal (and vice versa) image translation has emerged as a practical solution to this challenge. Prior approaches including conditional generative adversarial networks (cGANs) such as ThermalGAN and Scalable Interpolant Transformer (SiT)-based architectures such as ThermalGen have demonstrated strong potential for aerial-to-thermal image translation. In this work, we explore alternative architectures that prioritize simplicity while maintaining performance. Specifically, we propose a conditional U-Net that incorporates weather data at the bottleneck layer, complemented by targeted preprocessing and post-processing techniques applied within the Pix2Pix GAN architecture. We utilize a training set of 612 paired RGB and thermal images, and evaluate over 5-fold cross-validation, ultimately testing on a held-out test set. Our conditional U-Net model performed best, with a peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) of 14.5485, structural similarity index measure (SSIM) of 0.8095, and learned perceptual image patch similarity (LPIPS) of 0.1666. These results outperformed the base ThermalGen model, which attained PSNR, SSIM, and LPIPS scores of 7.56, 0.2444, and 0.6317 respectively. We find that while saturation boost and contrast enhancement for preprocessing and Gaussian blur for post-processing provide observable improvements, the incorporation of conditioning data was most effective. Our findings cement the potential of integrating auxiliary metadata into thermal image generation, suggesting that such information can serve as a proxy for environmental conditions critical to accurate thermal reconstruction.
4DLidarOpen: An Open 4D FMCW Lidar Dataset for Motion-Aware Autonomous Driving
arXiv:2605.18074v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: We present 4DLidarOpen, a large-scale open multi-modal dataset for autonomous driving, centered on 4D frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) Lidar sensing. Unlike conventional time-of-flight Lidar datasets that mainly provide geometric measurements, 4DLidarOpen includes point-wise radial velocity measurements from a forward-facing 4D FMCW Lidar, together with multiple Lidars of different types, including rotating, solid-state, and blind-spot variants, surround-view cameras, and 6-DOF ego-vehicle poses. The dataset was collected in complex urban environments in Beijing and covers dense pedestrian interactions, congested traffic, high-speed driving, and unprotected maneuvers. 4DLidarOpen provides synchronized multi-sensor data and 3D bounding-box annotations with persistent track IDs across five object categories. A hybrid annotation strategy is adopted, where large-scale auto-labeled data support scalable training and human experts refine annotations for the human-annotated training and validation sets. Based on this dataset, we establish benchmarks for 3D object detection, birds-eye view (BEV) segmentation and flow prediction, and motion forecasting with planning. Extensive experiments show that direct velocity measurements from 4D FMCW Lidar provide complementary motion cues for dynamic-scene understanding. Compared with geometric-only sensing, the velocity-aware representation improves motion-related perception and downstream forecasting and planning, especially in scenarios involving vulnerable road users and fast-moving objects. These results indicate that 4D FMCW Lidar is a promising sensing modality for motion-aware autonomous driving. The dataset and evaluation toolkit are publicly released to support research on 4D scene understanding, multi-Lidar fusion, and velocity-aware perception and planning.
Unleashing LLMs in Bayesian Optimization: Preference-Guided Framework for Scientific Discovery
arXiv:2605.17976v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Scientific discovery is increasingly constrained by costly experiments and limited resources, underscoring the need for efficient optimization in AI for science. Bayesian Optimization (BO), though widely adopted for balancing exploration and exploitation, often exhibits slow cold-start performance and poor scalability in high-dimensional settings, limiting its applicability in real-world scientific problems. To overcome these challenges, we propose LLM-Guided Bayesian Optimization (LGBO), the first LLM preference-guided BO framework that continuously integrates the semantic reasoning of large language models (LLMs) into the optimization loop. Unlike prior works that use LLMs only for warm-start initialization or candidate generation, LGBO introduces a region-lifted preference mechanism that embeds LLM-driven preferences into every iteration, shifting the surrogate mean in a stable and controllable way. Theoretically, we prove that LGBO does not perform significantly worse than standard BO in the worst case, while achieving significantly faster convergence when preferences align with the objective. Empirically, LGBO consistently outperforms existing methods across diverse dry benchmarks in physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science. Most notably, in a new wet-lab optimization of Fe-Cr battery electrolytes, LGBO attains \textbf{90\% of the best observed value within 6 iterations}, whereas standard BO and existing LLM-augmented baselines require more than 10. Together, these results suggest that LGBO offers a promising direction for integrating LLMs into scientific optimization workflows.
Object Tracking Incorporating Transfer Learning into Unscented and Cubature Kalman Filters
arXiv:2408.07157v3 Announce Type: replace Abstract: We present a novel filtering algorithm that employs Bayesian transfer learning to address the challenges posed by mismatched intensity of the noise in a pair of sensors, each of which tracks an object using a nonlinear dynamic system model. In this setting, the primary sensor experiences a higher noise intensity in tracking the object than the source sensor. To improve the estimation accuracy of the primary sensor, we propose a framework that integrates Bayesian transfer learning into an Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) and a Cubature Kalman Filter (CKF). In this approach, the parameters of the predicted observations in the source sensor are transferred to the primary sensor and used as an additional prior in the filtering process. Our simulation results show that the transfer learning approach significantly outperforms the conventional isolated UKF and CKF. Comparisons to a form of measurement vector fusion are also presented.
Reinforcement Learning for LLM Post-Training: A Survey
arXiv:2407.16216v4 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Large language models (LLMs) trained via pretraining and supervised fine-tuning (SFT) can still produce harmful and misaligned outputs, or struggle in domains like math and coding. Reinforcement learning (RL)-based post-training methods, including Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) methods like Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) and Reinforcement Learning with Verifiable Rewards (RLVR) approaches like PPO and GRPO, have made remarkable gains to alleviate these issues. Yet, no existing work offers a technically detailed comparison of the various methods driving this progress. In order to fill this gap, we present a timely survey that connects foundational components with latest advancements. We derive a single policy gradient framework that unifies pretraining, SFT, RLHF, and RLVR as special cases while also organizing the more recent techniques therein. The main contributions of our survey are as follows: (1) a self-contained introduction to MLE, RLHF, and RLVR foundations and the unified policy gradient framework; (2) detailed technical analysis of PPO- and GRPO-based methods alongside offline and iterative DPO approaches, decomposed along prompt sampling, response sampling, and gradient coefficient axes; (3) standardized notation enabling direct cross-method comparison; and (4) comprehensive comparison of implementation details and empirical results of each method in the appendix. We aim to serve as a technically grounded reference for researchers and practitioners working on LLM post-training.
