Venom: A PyTorch Generative Modeling Toolkit
arXiv:2605.17605v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Modern generative modeling has grown into a broad collection of related but often separately implemented paradigms, including denoising diffusion models, score-based stochastic differential equations, flow matching, variational autoencoders, normalizing flows, adversarial models, and energy-based models. For newcomers, this fragmentation makes it difficult to compare training objectives, inference procedures, sampling algorithms, and conditioning mechanisms within a single coherent codebase. We introduce V ENOM, an educational PyTorch toolkit that implements representative generative modeling families under a unified, MNIST-first interface. V ENOM emphasizes breadth, readability, reproducible entry points, and consistent training and sampling APIs rather than large-scale performance engineering. The package currently includes diffusion and score-based models, flow matching and one-step generators, variational autoencoders, normalizing flows, generative adversarial networks, and energy-based models. It provides separate training and sampling scripts, classifier and classifier-free guidance examples, bilingual tutorial notebooks, and a model-family organization that supports teaching, prototyping, and lightweight benchmarking.
Global training and the collaborative structure of elite U.S. science
arXiv:2605.18715v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Globally trained scientific labor is a substantial component of U.S. universities, yet the organizational mechanisms linking foreign degree training to elite scientific output remain poorly understood. We link comprehensive U.S. faculty rosters to more than 12 million OpenAlex-indexed faculty-publication observations from 2011 to 2020. Faculty with non-U.S. degrees constitute one-tenth of the U.S. professoriate but account for larger shares of total publications and top-1% cited papers. This overrepresentation is concentrated in high-output disciplinary domains and research-intensive institutions. Within institution - domain - rank - year strata, however, differences in top-1% output, FWCI, and corresponding-author share attenuate sharply, indicating that much of the aggregate pattern reflects organizational placement rather than large within-context citation advantages. Collaboration structure further differentiates foreign- and domestically trained faculty: mixed domestic-foreign faculty teams exhibit substantially elevated elite-output rates, and the association attenuates strongly after accounting for team size, suggesting that collaboration scale is central to the pattern. Topic-distinctiveness analyses show little evidence that foreign-degree faculty occupy unusually rare research niches. Overall, foreign-degree training is best understood less as an individual productivity attribute than as a structural feature of elite U.S. science, operating through institutional concentration and collaborative integration.
Universal Inverse Distillation for Matching Models with Real-Data Supervision (No GANs)
arXiv:2509.22459v4 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: While achieving exceptional generative quality, modern diffusion, flow, and other matching models suffer from slow inference, as they require many steps of iterative generation. Recent distillation methods address this problem by training efficient one-step generators under the guidance of a pre-trained teacher model. However, these methods are often constrained to only one specific framework, e.g., only to diffusion or only to flow models. Furthermore, these methods are originally data-free, and to benefit from the usage of real data, it is required to use an additional complex adversarial training with an extra discriminator model. In this paper, we present RealUID, a universal distillation framework for all matching models that seamlessly incorporates real data into the distillation procedure without GANs. Our RealUID approach offers a simple theoretical foundation that covers previous distillation methods for Flow Matching and Diffusion models, and can be also extended to their modifications, such as Bridge Matching and Stochastic Interpolants. When TableQA Meets Noise: A Dual Denoising Framework for Complex Questions and Large-scale Tables
arXiv:2509.17680v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Table question answering (TableQA) is a fundamental task in natural language processing (NLP). The strong reasoning capabilities of large language models (LLMs) have brought significant advances in this field. However, as real-world applications involve increasingly complex questions and larger tables, substantial noisy data is introduced, which severely degrades reasoning performance. To address this challenge, we focus on improving two core capabilities: Relevance Filtering, which identifies and retains information truly relevant to reasoning, and Table Pruning, which reduces table size while preserving essential content. Based on these principles, we propose EnoTab, a dual denoising framework for complex questions and large-scale tables. Specifically, we first perform Evidence-based Question Denoising by decomposing the question into minimal semantic units and filtering out those irrelevant to answer reasoning based on consistency and usability criteria. Then, we propose Evidence Tree-guided Table Denoising, which constructs an explicit and transparent table pruning path to remove irrelevant data step by step. At each pruning step, we observe the intermediate state of the table and apply a post-order node rollback mechanism to handle abnormal table states, ultimately producing a highly reliable sub-table for final answer reasoning. Finally, extensive experiments show that EnoTab achieves outstanding performance on TableQA tasks with complex questions and large-scale tables, confirming its effectiveness.
SwitchPatch: Physical Adversarial Attack Strategy with Switchable Adversarial Objectives
arXiv:2506.08482v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Physical adversarial patch (PAP) attacks attach carefully crafted patches to physical objects to manipulate a deployed model. However, existing PAP attacks suffer from several limitations. First, existing patches remain continuously active, which prevents selective targeting of specific attack objectives and compromises stealth. Second, these approaches require target device access or hardware configuration knowledge, and often rely on costly external equipment. To address these limitations, this paper introduces SwitchPatch, a novel physical adversarial attack strategy that employs a physically static adversarial patch yet can be triggered to produce dynamic and controllable attack effects. Unlike existing approaches, SwitchPatch can transition between states through predefined triggers, enabling adaptation to dynamic environments. Moreover, to improve stealth, we design two trigger patterns: one overlapping with the patch and another spatially separated from it. These triggers can be implemented at low cost without target device access or hardware configuration knowledge. We make three contributions. First, we provide theoretical and empirical analysis to establish the feasibility of SwitchPatch and characterize the number of attack objectives it can support. Second, we develop a gradient-based framework for static yet switchable attacks through diverse trigger patterns. Third, we conduct extensive Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) experiments to validate the effectiveness, transferability, and robustness of SwitchPatch.
Mapping NVD Records to Their Vulnerability-fixing Commits: How Hard is It?
arXiv:2506.09702v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Mapping National Vulnerability Database (NVD) records to vulnerability-fixing commits (VFCs) is crucial for vulnerability analysis but challenging due to sparse explicit links in NVD references. This study explores this mapping's feasibility through an empirical approach. Manual analysis of NVD references showed Git references enable over 86% success, while non-Git references achieve under 14%. Using these findings, we built an automated pipeline extracting 31,942 VFCs from 20,360 NVD records (8.7% of 235,341) with 87% precision, mainly from Git references. To fill gaps, we mined six external security databases, yielding 29,254 VFCs for 18,985 records (8.1%) at 88.4% precision, and GitHub repositories, adding 3,686 VFCs for 2,795 records (1.2%) at 73% precision. Combining these, we mapped 26,710 unique records (11.3% coverage) from 7,634 projects, with overlap between NVD and external databases, plus unique GitHub contributions. Despite success with Git references, 88.7% of records remain unmapped, highlighting the difficulty without Git links. This study offers insights for enhancing vulnerability datasets and guiding future automated security research.
Universal Jaynes-Cummings Control of an Oscillator
arXiv:2605.18658v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: The Jaynes-Cummings (JC) interaction-the coherent exchange of excitations between a two-level system and a harmonic oscillator-is one of the fundamental interactions of quantum optics, realized across platforms such as cavity quantum electrodynamics, trapped ions, mechanical resonators, and superconducting circuits. Although JC interactions and qubit rotations form a universal gate set for oscillator control, practical implementations have not been demonstrated. Here we develop and experimentally demonstrate universal JC-based oscillator control by compiling arbitrary unitary gates into sequences of JC interactions and qubit rotations. In our experiment, the oscillator is realized using a mode of a high quality factor microwave cavity and the ancilla qubit using a superconducting transmon circuit, with the JC interaction implemented by a sideband interaction enabled by the Josephson nonlinearity. The native gates are constructed to be closed below a chosen cutoff photon number, encoding a qudit with suppressed leakage errors, while ancilla relaxation errors are detectable. We further find that the dispersive shift serves as a compilation resource that reduces circuit depths. We demonstrate universal qudit control and implement a single-qutrit gate set with a mean post-selected process fidelity of 96%, as well as ququart and ququint shift gates. These results establish Jaynes-Cummings control as a practical route to universal oscillator control, enabling programmable bosonic processors across a variety of quantum platforms.
VISTA: Variance-Gated Inter-Sequence Test-Time Adaptation for Multi-Sequence MRI Segmentation
arXiv:2605.17433v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Deploying multi-sequence magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) segmentation models to new clinical environments is challenging due to variations in scanners and acquisition protocols. Although existing TTA methods handle basic per-modality shifts, they often fail under a fundamental dual-shift problem, as their adaptation signals fail to capture modality-interaction shifts that disrupt inter-sequence consistency. To address this, we propose Variance-gated Inter-Sequence Test-time Adaptation (VISTA), a source-free framework that tackles modality-interaction shifts. First, we design an Inter-Sequence Intervention Generator (ISIG) that generates a set of consistency probes by swapping low-frequency spectra and entropy-localized patches across sequences, preserving anatomical semantics while challenging inter-sequence dependencies. Second, we introduce Cross-View Disagreement-Aware Pseudo Labeling (CDPL), which establishes a voxel-wise reliability metric using cross-view disagreement variance to dynamically gate self-training and enforce interventional consistency, encouraging the network to rely on robust anatomical semantics. Extensive experiments adapting from standard adult MRI (BraTS-GLI-Pre) to African low-field (BraTS-SSA) and pediatric (BraTS-PED) cohorts show improved performance over competing methods under clinical shifts, achieving absolute Dice improvements of +1.89% (SSA) and +2.82% (PED) over the source model. Perfect Parallelization in Mini-Batch SGD with Classical Momentum Acceleration
arXiv:2605.18609v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Accelerating stochastic gradient methods with classical momentum schemes, such as Polyak's heavy ball, has proven highly successful in training large-scale machine learning models, particularly when combined with the hardware acceleration of large mini-batch computations. Yet, the effect of classical momentum on stochastic mini-batch optimization has been poorly understood theoretically, with prior works requiring strong noise assumptions and extremely large mini-batches. In this work, we develop a general theory of stochastic momentum acceleration for optimizing over quadratics in the interpolation regime, a popular abstraction for studying deep learning dynamics which also includes classical methods such as randomized Kaczmarz and coordinate descent. Our framework encompasses both heavy ball and Nesterov-style momentum, allows for arbitrary mini-batch sizes, and makes minimal assumptions on the stochastic noise. In particular, we show that acceleration from classical momentum is directly proportional to the gradient mini-batch size (up to a natural saturation point), thereby enabling perfect parallelization of mini-batch computations. Our theory also provides a simple choice for the momentum parameter, which is shown to be effective empirically.
Universal Time-Series Representation Learning: A Survey
arXiv:2401.03717v4 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Time-series data exists in every corner of real-world systems and services, ranging from satellites in the sky to wearable devices on human bodies. Learning representations by extracting and inferring valuable information from these time series is crucial for understanding the complex dynamics of particular phenomena and enabling informed decisions. With the learned representations, we can perform numerous downstream analyses more effectively. Among several approaches, deep learning has demonstrated remarkable performance in extracting hidden patterns and features from time-series data without manual feature engineering. This survey first presents a novel taxonomy based on three fundamental elements in designing state-of-the-art universal representation learning methods for time series. According to the proposed taxonomy, we comprehensively review existing studies and discuss their intuitions and insights into how these methods enhance the quality of learned representations. Finally, as a guideline for future studies, we summarize commonly used experimental setups and datasets and discuss several promising research directions. Learning Lifted Action Models from Traces with Minimal Information About Actions and States
arXiv:2605.18627v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: It has been recently shown that lifted STRIPS models can be learned correctly and efficiently from action traces alone; i.e., applicable action sequences from a hidden STRIPS model. The result is remarkable because the states are not assumed to be observable at all, and yet it is not practical enough as STRIPS actions include arguments that are not needed for selecting the actions. This shortcoming has been addressed by assuming that the action traces come instead from a hidden STRIPS+ model where some action arguments are implicit in the hidden action preconditions. A limitation of this approach, however, is that it assumes that the states are fully observable. In this work, we relax these restrictions and consider the problem of learning STRIPS+ action domains from traces in a more general context where the traces carry partial information about both actions and states. In particular, we formulate algorithms and completeness results for three general cases, all of which assume full observability of selected action arguments. In the first case, no observability of the state is assumed; in the second case, full observability of some state predicates is assumed, and in the third case, local observability of some state predicates is assumed instead. Given a STRIPS+ domain, these results characterize the conditions under which an equivalent domain can be learned from traces. Experimental results are reported.
A Hybrid Gaussian Process Regression Framework for Stable Volatility-Covariance Estimation: Evidence from Global Equity Indices
arXiv:2605.17275v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Accurate forecasting of the Volatility-Covariance Matrix (VCV) is central to regulatory capital adequacy processes such as the Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) and the Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR). Traditional econometric models, including GARCH-family and Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) approaches, suffer from parametric rigidity, distributional assumptions, and numerical instability under stress, leading to systematic underestimation of tail risk. This paper proposes and validates a novel Hybrid Gaussian Process Regression-Historical Simulation (GPR-HS) framework for estimating Value-at-Risk (VaR) and Expected Shortfall (ES) across a diversified portfolio of seven major global equity indices. The framework decouples the VCV estimation problem: individual asset volatilities are modelled dynamically using Univariate GPR with a Matern 5/2 kernel, while inter-asset correlations are estimated via stable historical covariance. A key methodological contribution is the Aggressive Noise Initialization (ANI) strategy, which sets the initial White Noise kernel variance equal to the empirical variance of the training returns, ensuring Gram matrix positive-definiteness, regularization, and conservative, regulatory-compliant forecasts. Evaluated using an expanding window forward-chaining cross-validation scheme over June 2020 -June 2025, the GPR-HS framework achieves regulatory compliance in the majority of test splits; including a 100% ES pass rate at the portfolio level, while outperforming the static Historical VaR benchmark in 71.4% of univariate cases by Quadratic Loss and 100% of cases by violation count.
Efficient Feature-Free Initialization for Monocular Visual-Inertial Systems Using a Feed-Forward 3D Model
arXiv:2605.17327v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Fast and reliable initialization is critical for monocular visual-inertial navigation systems (VINS), as it establishes the starting conditions for subsequent state estimation. Despite steady progress, most existing methods heavily rely on visual feature correspondences and require 3-4 seconds of sensory data for successful initialization, which limits their applicability and efficiency. With the advent of feed-forward 3D models that can directly predict point clouds from images, we revisit the visual-inertial initialization problem from a concise perspective. In this work, we propose a feature-free initialization framework that leverages up-to-scale point clouds predicted by a feed-forward 3D model, thereby obviating the need for visual feature tracking and estimation. This design substantially reduces system complexity and improves the reliability of initialization. Experiments on public datasets demonstrate that the proposed feature-free initialization method achieves the highest success rate, exceeding 90%, and significantly reduces the data duration required for successful initialization, typically to under 1.2 s. We further validate our method on a self-collected dataset covering various indoor and outdoor scenarios, demonstrating robust performance, particularly in visually degraded environments where existing methods often fail. The Fragility of Learning LQG Controllers
arXiv:2604.24442v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Learning methods are increasingly used to synthesize controllers from data, yet existing sample-complexity characterizations for continuous control are sharp only in the fully observed setting. This paper studies the partially observed case by deriving information-theoretic lower bounds for learning Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) controllers from offline trajectories generated by a (linear) exploration policy. We prove an $\varepsilon$-local minimax excess-cost lower bound that applies to any algorithm mapping the offline dataset to a stabilizing linear controller. The bound is expressed in terms of the Hessian of the LQG cost with respect to model parameters and the inverse Fisher Information induced by the exploration policy. We further provide system-theoretic characterizations of these objects, enabling transparent construction of hard instances. Instantiating the bound on classical fragile robust-control examples, including variants of the Doyle LQG fragility counterexample and non-minimum-phase systems, demonstrates when fragile robust control problems translate into high sample complexity for learning-enabled control. These results suggest the asymptotic optimality of certainty-equivalent synthesis and motivate the importance of both task-directed experiment design and system co-design for sample-efficient learning in partially observed control.
Spatiotemporal representation of a two-vortex reconnection as a single rotating vortex
arXiv:2605.18671v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Reconnections and rotations of lines are dual descriptions of the same saddle-shaped spacetime surface. We show that a reconnection between two line occurring over time is a single line that rotates over space progression. Both rotating lines and reconnections possess the same saddle shape sheet geometry in four-dimensional space-time, with different orientations. Cyclic precessing lines occurring over time are arrays of reconnections occurring spatially. We show that a magnetic reconnection occurring over time can be seen as a single continuous line vector potential rotating spatially, where the full evolution traces a saddle shape surface. Finally, we show that a single tilted spatiotemporal optical vortex precesses with spatial progression, and as a result can be seen as two vortices reconnecting. Given the unique spatiotemporal evolution, we also analyzed the relativistic angular momentum of these electromagnetic fields.
Query-Conditioned Knowledge Alignment for Reliable Cross-System Medical Reasoning
arXiv:2605.18570v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Cross-domain knowledge alignment is essential for integrating heterogeneous medical systems, yet existing approaches typically treat entity alignment as a static matching problem, ignoring query context and cross-system asymmetry. This limitation is particularly critical in integrative medical settings, where correspondence between concepts is inherently context-dependent, non-bijective, and direction-sensitive. In this paper, we propose Query-Conditioned Entity Alignment (QCEA), which reformulates entity alignment as a query-conditioned correspondence problem. Instead of learning a fixed mapping between entity representations, QCEA treats the textual description of a source entity as a query and ranks candidate entities in the target graph, enabling context-dependent alignment. The framework integrates semantic encoding, graph-based representation learning, and a direction-aware transformation module to capture asymmetric and many-to-many correspondence across heterogeneous knowledge systems. We evaluate QCEA on TCM--WM knowledge graphs derived from SymMap, covering both symptom alignment and herb--molecule alignment tasks. Experimental results show consistent improvements over representative baselines, particularly on rank-sensitive metrics such as Hit@K and MRR. Furthermore, downstream retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) experiments demonstrate that improved alignment leads to better evidence retrieval, stronger grounding, and higher answer accuracy. These findings highlight that alignment is not merely a data integration step, but a key factor that shapes knowledge accessibility and reliability in cross-system medical reasoning.
Scalable Bi-causal Optimal Transport via KL Relaxation and Policy Gradients
arXiv:2605.17271v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Bi-causal optimal transport (OT) is a natural framework for comparing and coupling stochastic processes under nonanticipative information constraints, with important applications in robust finance, sequential uncertainty quantification, and multistage stochastic optimization. In particular, a learned bi-causal coupling naturally serves as a simulator for generating joint sample paths that respect both prescribed marginal laws and the underlying information flow. Its practical use, however, is limited by the computational difficulty of enforcing bi-causal coupling constraints over path space, especially for continuous distributions and long horizons. We develop a scalable stochastic-optimization framework for computing bi-causal OT couplings under general marginals. Our approach introduces a Kullback--Leibler (KL)-penalized relaxation that replaces hard marginal constraints with tractable divergence penalties while preserving the recursive structure of the problem. We establish dynamic programming principles for both the original and relaxed formulations, prove that the relaxed problem converges to the original bi-causal OT problem as the penalty grows, and derive explicit policy-gradient representations for the relaxed objective. Building on these results, we propose a practical policy-gradient algorithm with unbiased mini-batch estimators, variance reduction, and nonasymptotic regret guarantees. Numerical experiments show that the method accurately captures marginal laws and temporal dependence, and performs well in applications including robust subhedging and time series statistical downscaling. These results provide a scalable computational approach to bi-causal OT and broaden its applicability in settings where nonanticipative information constraints are essential.
FlightSense: An End-to-End MLOps Platform for Real-Time Flight Delay Prediction via Rotation-Chain Propagation Features and Agentic Conversational AI
arXiv:2605.07364v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Flight delays impose cascading operational and financial burdens across the aviation network, costing the U.S. economy billions of dollars annually by disrupting interconnected aircraft rotation systems. While prior machine learning approaches have demonstrated strong predictive performance, most treat upstream delays as static input variables rather than explicitly modeling how delays propagate dynamically through aircraft rotation chains, and none have deployed such systems alongside a live weather-aware conversational AI interface for end-user interaction. This paper presents FlightSense, an end-to-end MLOps platform for real-time flight delay prediction built through a progressive three-version feature engineering framework. Version 1 trains an XGBoost classifier on 11 schedule-based features establishing a baseline ROC AUC of 0.732 on 7.07 million BTS 2018 On-Time Performance records. Version 2 introduces 11 delay propagation features derived from aircraft rotation chains via tail-number tracking, yielding the dominant performance gain (AUC 0.732 to 0.875) and surpassing the single-stage XGBoost baseline reported by Zhou (2025). Version 3 integrates five NOAA meteorological features across 10 major U.S. airports, achieving a final test set AUC of 0.879. FlightSense is deployed as a production AWS MLOps pipeline incorporating live weather ingestion via Lambda, real-time SageMaker inference, an interactive Streamlit dashboard, and an Amazon Bedrock Nova Micro conversational assistant answering natural-language delay queries via a tool-use architecture.
TClone: Low-Latency Forking of Live GUI Environments for Computer-Use Agents
arXiv:2605.17320v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Computer-use agents increasingly operate inside live personal workspaces, where their actions can modify files, applications, GUI state, credentials, and authenticated sessions. This creates a tension between safety and quality: agents need isolation and rollback to avoid damaging user state, but also need fast branching to support speculative execution and parallel search. Existing VMs, containers, and checkpoint/restore systems can isolate or recover workloads, but they do not provide low-latency versioning of a full interactive workspace. We present TClone, a forkable personal workspace system for computer-use agents. TClone enables a live GUI workspace to be snapshotted, forked into isolated branches, rolled back, and selectively committed or merged. Its design separates fast branch creation from durable checkpointing, using sibling containers, copy-on-write memory sharing, filesystem versioning, GUI-local execution, and asynchronous checkpointing. In our end-to-end agent-loop measurement, TClone reduces total task latency by 1.9x and 1.5x over KVM and CRIU. By making workspace versioning a first-class systems primitive, TClone supports safer and higher-quality agent execution over real personal computing environments.
Reinforce Adjoint Matching: Scaling RL Post-Training of Diffusion and Flow-Matching Models
arXiv:2605.10759v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Diffusion and flow-matching models scale because pretraining is supervised regression: a clean sample is noised analytically, and a model regresses against a closed-form target. RL post-training aligns the model with a reward. In image generation, this makes samples compose objects correctly, render text legibly, and match human preferences. Existing methods rely on costly SDE rollouts, reward gradients, or surrogate losses, sacrificing pretraining's regression structure. We show that the structure extends to RL post-training. Under KL-regularized reward maximization, the optimal generative process tilts the clean-endpoint distribution towards samples with higher reward and leaves the noising law unchanged. Combining this with the adjoint-matching optimality condition and a REINFORCE identity, we derive Reinforce Adjoint Matching (RAM): a consistency loss that corrects the pretraining target with the reward. At each step, we draw a clean endpoint from the current model, evaluate its reward, noise it as in pretraining, and regress. No SDE rollouts, backward adjoint sweeps, or reward gradients are required. Like the pretraining objective, RAM is simple and scales. On Stable Diffusion 3.5M, RAM achieves the highest reward on composability, text rendering, and human preference, reaching Flow-GRPO's peak reward in up to $50\times$ fewer training steps.
Speak Your Mind: The Speech Continuation Task as a Probe of Voice-Based Model Bias

Because SC is constrained to a single audio stream, it offers a more direct setting for probing biases in speech foundation models than dialogue does. In this work we present the first systematic evaluation of bias in SC, investigating how gender and phonation type (breathy, creaky, end-creak) affect continuation behaviour. We evaluate three recent models: SpiritLM (base and expressive), VAE-GSLM, and SpeechGPT across speaker similarity, voice quality preservation, and text-based bias metrics. Results show that while both speaker similarity and coherence remain a challenge, textual evaluations reveal significant model and gender interactions: once coherence is sufficiently high (for VAE-GSLM), gender effects emerge on text-metrics such as agency and sentence polarity. In addition, continuations revert toward modal phonation more strongly for female prompts than for male ones, revealing a systematic voice-quality bias. These findings highlight SC as a controlled probe of socially relevant representational biases in speech foundation models, and suggest that it will become an increasingly informative diagnostic as continuation quality improves.
Bayesian-Monte Carlo Schedule Updating for Construction Digital Twins: A Probabilistic Framework for Dynamic Project Forecasting
arXiv:2605.17608v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Construction projects frequently experience schedule delays and forecasting uncertainty due to variability in labor productivity, material availability, weather conditions, and project coordination. Conventional deterministic scheduling methods such as the Critical Path Method (CPM) assume fixed activity durations and therefore cannot adequately represent dynamic project uncertainty. This study presents a Bayesian-Monte Carlo probabilistic schedule updating framework for construction digital twin environments. The proposed methodology integrates stochastic activity-duration modeling, Bayesian recursive updating, Monte Carlo simulation, and uncertainty propagation within a unified computational framework for adaptive schedule forecasting. Activity durations are modeled using lognormal probability distributions and continuously updated through Bayesian inference as new project observations become available. Monte Carlo simulation is then used to propagate updated uncertainty throughout project networks and generate probabilistic completion-time forecasts, delay-risk estimates, and activity criticality measures. Simulation experiments using PSPLIB benchmark project networks demonstrate that the proposed framework improves forecasting accuracy and uncertainty representation compared with deterministic CPM and static probabilistic scheduling approaches. The framework further supports adaptive project forecasting through integration of BIM reports, drone observations, IoT telemetry, productivity logs, and site monitoring data.
PFlow-T: A Persistence-Driven Forward Process for Topology-Controlled Generation

Continual Learning for VLMs: A Survey and Taxonomy Beyond Forgetting
arXiv:2508.04227v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Vision-language models (VLMs) and the recent surge of Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have revolutionized artificial intelligence with unprecedented cross-modal alignment and zero-shot generalization. However, enabling them to learn continually from non-stationary data remains a major challenge, as their cross-modal alignment and generalization capabilities are particularly vulnerable to catastrophic forgetting. Unlike traditional unimodal continual learning (CL), VLMs face unique challenges such as cross-modal feature drift, parameter interference due to shared architectures, and zero-shot capability erosion. Furthermore, generative MLLMs exhibit a unique ``alignment tax,'' where catastrophic forgetting manifests not merely as factual amnesia, but as a systemic collapse of deep Chain-of-Thought (CoT) reasoning. This survey presents the first comprehensive, diagnostic review bridging continual learning for both predictive VLMs and generative MLLMs. We systematically deconstruct the aforementioned failure modes and propose a challenge-driven taxonomy comprising four core paradigms: (1) Multi-Modal Replay Strategies addressing explicit and implicit memory drift; (2) Cross-Modal Regularization enforcing topological and geometric alignment; (3) Parameter-Efficient Adaptation} utilizing dynamic routing and subspace projections; and the emerging (4) Model Fusion and Decoupling paradigms. We critically analyze the evolution of evaluation protocols, highlighting the essential shift toward dual-track benchmarks (Domain vs. Ability CL) and micro-diagnostic CoT evaluations. Finally, we chart a roadmap for future research, emphasizing compositional zero-shot learning, embodied AI with sensor fusion, and autonomous agentic ecosystems. Instability and self-propulsion of flexible autophoretic filaments
arXiv:2509.10153v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Over the past decade, autophoretic colloids have emerged as a prototypical system for studying self-propelled motion at microscopic scales, with promising applications in microfluidics, micromachinery, and therapeutics. Their motion in a viscous fluid hinges on their ability to induce surface slip flows that are spatially asymmetric from self-generated solute gradients. Here, we demonstrate theoretically that a straight elastic filament with homogeneous surface chemical properties -- which is otherwise immotile -- can spontaneously achieve self-propulsion by experiencing a buckling instability that serves as the symmetry-breaking mechanism. Using efficient numerical simulations, we characterize the nonlinear dynamics of the elastic filament and show that, over time, it attains distinct swimming modes such as a steadily translating "U" shape and a metastable rotating "S" shape when semiflexible, and an oscillatory state when highly flexible. Our findings provide physical insight into future experiments and the design of reconfigurable synthetic active colloids.
