Tumor size predicts survival in stage IIIA melanoma, study finds

A Swedish study of 2,000+ melanoma patients reveals that the size of hidden metastatic tumors independently predicts death risk in stage IIIA disease. The finding could refine how oncologists stratify patients for treatment intensity and clinical trials, potentially improving outcomes and reducing overtreatment.

Originaltitel: Impact of occult metastasis size on mortality in stage IIIA melanoma: a Swedish population-based registry study

Abstrakt

In this population-based registry study from the Swedish Melanoma Register (2013-2018), we found that, in stage IIIA melanoma, the size of the occult metastasis was independently associated with melanoma-specific death. Our finding may improve future prognostic precision for patients with stage IIIA melanoma.
