Originaltitel: Tips and Tricks for Organizing a Summer School -a Case Study Based on the 'Nexus of Organic Matter Analytical Developments' School
Background In June 2025 we organized and ran the first 'Nexus of Organic Matter Analytical Developments' (NOMAD) Summer School at the Tjärnö Marine Laboratory in Sweden. In this article, we outline its development and implementation, with the goal of providing insight into the process, and a general framework for future events. We describe how we conceptualized the summer school and justify why it was needed, and discuss funding, advertisement, and staff and student recruitment. Additionally, we discuss how we designed the educational and social program to strike a balance between formal/informal educational and social content. In each section, we highlight what we feel went well as well as what could have been improved. There are many takeaways from the event that we think are widely applicable and will benefit other organizers seeking to develop their own summer schools. Finally, we have included student perspectives for each section written by attendees, that provide context about what participants liked and disliked regarding the structure of events like NOMAD.
