Gene variant linked to life-threatening complications after colon cancer surgery
Researchers have identified a genetic mutation in the COX-2 gene promoter associated with anastomotic leakage—a potentially fatal surgical complication in colorectal cancer patients. The finding could enable surgeons to identify high-risk patients before operating, allowing them to take preventive measures and reduce costly hospital readmissions and patient mortality.
