New tool helps companies navigate tariffs and supply chain chaos in real time
Researchers have built an interactive visualization platform that turns complex global supply chain data into actionable insights for managers facing tariffs, reshoring, and trade uncertainty. The tool can model policy changes and identify supply vulnerabilities faster than traditional planning methods, potentially saving companies millions in costly restructuring decisions.
Originaltitel: Visual Analytics for Global Supply Chain Decision-Making: A Tariff-Responsive Tool for Managers and Policymakers

Companies face increasing challenges from reshoring, nearshoring, deglobalization, trade wars, and policy uncertainties. However, traditional supply chain models often prove to be complex for practical application by managers and policymakers who must make decisions under tight timeframes with incomplete information and high uncertainty. This research addresses this gap by developing an interactive visualization tool that processes large and different global supply chain data into immediate and intuitive visual insights. Using DataCo Global dataset for testing the tool, we demonstrate how the tool identifies supply opportunities, critical suppliers, and supports strategic decision-making in scenarios with high uncertainty. The methodology combines network analysis algorithms with interactive visualization techniques to enable both operational and strategic planning. The findings of this study also show that visual tools effectively support three key activities: identifying supply chain seasonality, simulating tariff policy changes, and evaluating supply chain restructuring alternatives. This research contributes to both practice and theory by introducing accessible tools for supply chain analytics, therefore allowing managers to make informed decisions and policymakers to better understand potential impacts of trade policies before implementation.
