New tau imaging tests could spot different dementia types faster

Researchers have identified three experimental brain imaging tracers that can distinguish between Alzheimer's disease and two rare neurodegenerative disorders by detecting different patterns of tau protein buildup. The finding could accelerate diagnosis and unlock treatments tailored to specific brain diseases, potentially reducing years of diagnostic uncertainty for patients and opening new market opportunities for precision diagnostics.
