Researchers identify cellular mechanism behind dangerous heart valve defect

Scientists have pinpointed how a common birth defect affecting the aortic valve develops at the cellular level, involving disrupted cell transformation and blood vessel instability. The findings could eventually lead to earlier detection and intervention strategies for bicuspid aortic valve disease, which affects roughly 1-2% of the population and can cause life-threatening complications without treatment.
